Love that book, Love That Dog! I've yet to speak to a single person who doesn't cherish this book! Written as a narrative poem, Sharon Crcech has given us a story of Jack, a writer in the making, with the help of his teacher, Miss Stretchberry. Jack isn't sure his likes poetry or even should like poetry: "I don't want to/because boys/don't write poetry./Girls do" (p. 1) but with many words of encouragement and respect, Jack moves from the status of non-writer, to anonymous writer, to acknowledged writer with great perception and insight into life.

Perhaps one of the text's most memorable lines comes from such insight as Jack ponders the life and times of Robert Frost. He writes, "And you said that/Mr. Robert Frost/who wrote/about the pasture/was also the one/who wrote about/those snowy woods/and the miles to go/before he sleeps--/well! …
