With the turn of the year, the Society's governing board welcomed new members and bade farewell, with heart-felt thanks, to those whose terms have ended.

This year, five new trustees begin their terms. H. Furlong Baldwin of Baltimore graduated from Princeton. After active service in the U.S. Marine Corps, he joined the Mercantile Bankshares Corporation in Baltimore, where he eventually became chairman. He has been a member of the boards of the Johns Hopkins University, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Maryland Historical Society, and the Marine Corps Museum.

J. Alfred Broaddus of Richmond is president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. A graduate of Washington and Lee University, he received graduate degrees from the University of Strasbourg, France, and Indiana University. He holds a PhD in economics from the latter. He is currently on the boards of Richmond Renaissance and the World Affairs Council of Greater Richmond.

W. Heywood Fralin of Roanoke received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and JD from American University. He recently retired from practice of the law and is currently CEO of companies that operate nursing and retirement facilities in Virginia and North Carolina. …
