For his leadership in merging Mobil's diffuse R&D technical service resources to create a centralized technology delivery organization, managed in partnership with Mobil's business units, and infused with an entrepreneurial pursuit of bottom-line impact; in directing development of Mobil's zeolite catalysts into a family of hydrocarbon processing technologies of significant economic value to Mobil and society; and in co-chairing the Auto/Oil Quality Improvement Research Program, whose emissions database has helped regulators formulate strategies to meet the nation's air quality goals.

John J. Wise is Vice President of Research at Mobil Research and Development Corporation in Princeton, New Jersey. He oversees all of Mobil's research and development in support of exploration, production, refining, and marketing of petroleum. He earned his B.S. in chemical engineering from Tufts University and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Wise joined Mobil in 1953 as a research engineer, became Vice President of R&E Planning in 1977, Manager of Exploration and Production R&D in 1981, Manager of Process and Products R&D in 1984, and was appointed to his present position in 1987. Inspired by his leadership, and supported by the integrating initiatives he helped put in place, the Research Department at Mobil has become increasingly entrepreneurial and customer-oriented, and its scientists and engineers more focused on bottom-line impact. …
