This is a book about Melanie Martin, a girl who is going to Italy. She is ten years old and has a mom, dad, and a little brother who is six years old. Melanie's best friend is Cecily, but she's not really mentioned much in the story. Melanie has glasses, blue eyes, and brown hair.

The setting for the story is the country of Italy in the summertime. The problem is that, as you can tell from the title, Melanie doesn't want to go to Italy with her family because she doesn't have any friends there. She especially doesn't want to go with her little brother, Matt, because she thinks he's a big pain.

Melanie has her share of problems while she's in Italy, but one of the most interesting parts was when she was actually getting along with Matt, playing circus with him, and she flipped upside down in the air and landed on her face. …
