Medievalists will welcome the appearance of this new volume in the edition of the vast but fascinating fourteenth-century romance Perceforest, of which parts I, III, and IV have already been published. Gilles Roussineau has once again been allowed to show his quality as editor through being granted reasonable space for variants, notes, and a helpful glossary. His text is based on A (Paris, BN, MS f. fr. 346); he gives variants from B (Paris, BN, MS f. fr. 107), from C (Paris, Arsenal, MS 3485-6), and from the printed edition, where these support an emendation, or where the text of A, though unemended, is suspect, or where one or more of the other manuscripts show interesting features. BN, MS f. fr. 107 provides two sets of variants as there are to be found within it two different copies of the beginning of part of the text.
