This dictionary covers Arthurian names in relation to literature in a wide range of languages (English, French, German, Dutch, Norse, Italian, Welsh, as well as one Greek text and one in a Slavonic language, but no Spanish or Portuguese, so important for the Post-Vulgate cycle), but mainly only in relation to texts in translation. For example, the Vulgate Lancelot-Grail cycle is only referred to in relation to the careful translation published by Garland, of which Norris Lacy is the general editor, not to the editions in the original Old French. The references to the Prose Tristan (so important for Malory) only refer to the very small amount of the text published in translation by Renee Curtis, although a complete edition of one version of the Old French text is now available. Yet other admirable but less influential texts, only published in the original Old French, such as La Vengeance Raguidel, are listed with full bibliographical details. …
