This book contains the papers given to celebrate the eightieth birthday of Roger Dragonetti; they deal with a wide range of literature as did the scholar being honoured. Christopher Lucken, `Le Genie orgucilleux', contrasts Lanson's historical method in his treatment of work of literary genius with Dragonetti's approach as exemplified in La Technique poetique des trouveres dans la chanson courtoise, where he chooses to explore the figure and name of the author in terms of structure and of fictions emphasizing the importance of discontinuity, of space for the unknown, in medieval poetics. Charles Mela, 'L'Hamecon: A propos du Sophiste: mimetique et peche A la ligne', also reminds us that Dragonetti had restored `la fiction du sujet' and attacked the very names of a `Chretien de Troves' or a `Francois Villon'. Dragonetti himself, `L'Orgueil de la litterature', emphasizes the 'modernity' of some medieval texts in that it is the particular work of genius which keeps in itself the secret of its future because it is open to a range of interpretations. …
