Teachers, extension educators and other FCS professionals continue to serve as respected resources for the recommendation of colleges/universities to potential students and their parents. PCS professionals are in a unique position to provide the best possible recommendations for matriculation to higher education; they have knowledge about the primary indicator of a quality PCS program.

Accreditation of the institution and of academic programs is a reliable indicator for the recommendation of a college or university. The higher education institution should hold regional accreditation from the Commission on Colleges within their geographical location, and the PCS program should hold accreditation I mm the Council of Accreditation (CPA) of AAPC]S. The regional accreditation agencies focus on the educational institution as a whole. Specialized accrediting agencies such as CPA look at specific units within the institution and examine the quality of educational preparation of students for entry into the profession.
