THE key to this book is the word, knowledge: it is of course, a book about knowledge management but as the authors point out, "it offers a perspective very different from [the] mainstream".

The authors acknowledge the "chaotic image of modern work life", but (and I confess this was the appeal for me) argue that traditional methods on their own are not enough to manage "living knowledge" -a term that "escapes easy articulation".

The concept is one of many challenging the reader: it is a research-based textbook. It is serious and grounded in five years of research organised under the new concept framework of Kunne: a Norwegian word which does not translate easily into a single entity but represents an ambiguity of knowledge versus knowing.

The book is authoritative, and can be used as a study text, wherein experienced leader/managers can access sections at will.

I would however, recommend the reader to start with chapter one. It provides a context and set of definitions which serve as useful reference points for the other chapters. …
