Liber usuum fratrum monasterii Vadstenensis: The Customary of the Vadstena Brothers. A Critical Edition with an Introduction, ed. This is the hitherto unpublished Latin customary compiled some time during the years 1448-87 for brothers of the Bridgettine Order, who, with the exception of Syon Abbey near London, were obliged to follow the customs and ceremonies of Vadstena in Sweden. It corresponds to the Lucidarium (preserved in the original Swedish and in Latin and German translations), which set out the customs for the sisters, and was intended to augment the regulations set out in St Bridget's own rule, the Regula Salvatoris. Of fourteen recorded manuscripts two are medieval (one from Vadstena, the other from Altomunster in Upper Bavaria), the rest seventeenth-century copies from Germany and the Netherlands. …
