Mary-Paula Walsh's Feminism and Christian Tradition is a treasure trove of the most important works in the field of feminist studies in religion covering the past three decades. Written in the form of a cross-disciplinary bibliography, the work features incisive narratives of many of the major works that have contributed to the development of the field of feminist and womanist theologies. Though Walsh could not include all the works written over a twenty-five year period in this burgeoning field, her expertise across a wide variety of related disciplines has crafted a bibliography covering six broad subject categories and twenty-four sub-categories. Moreover, the author defines "feminist theology" broadly, and has selected for inclusion authors from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and perspectives, including womanist, evangelical, Roman Catholic, lesbian, Mujerista, Jewish, Asian and Asian-- American.
Names such as Katie Cannon, Carter Heyward, Virginia Mollenkott, Beverly Harrison, Rebecca Chopp, Rita Nakashima Brock, Rosemary Radford Ruether, Catherine LaCugna, Mary Ann Tolbert, Mary Daly, Dorothee Soelle, Phyllis Trible, Letty Russell, Delores Williams, Carol Christ, Kwok Pui Lan, are but a few of the important and varied authors included in this chronology of key sources that have exemplified the pivotal shifts within Western Christianity.
