Dear ABNF Membership and readers:

Greetings to you after our Annual Regional Spring Conference!

What a wonderful and exciting event that was. Our beloved Dr. Elizabeth Carneige was with us and inspired us in her usual way. She traced for us the historical path that black nurses have assumed in mentoring our own nurses. Among the black nurse mentors that Dr. Carneige recognized was our own Dr. Margaret Beard. Having both of these icons with us is in itself a mentoring experience. It is truly refreshing to hear Dr. Carneige say "I know, I was there when it happened". Indeed, she is an oral historian par excellence.

As a pre-conference event, Dr. Carneige spoke to the University of Missouri Kansas City students on the topic of diversity. At that event, there were approximately 75 students and some faculty in attendance. At a later appearance, she spoke to a much larger audience (approximately 160 attendees) on Blacks in Nursing. Some of the ABNF members were at that conference. The latter audience was comprised of students from several nursing programs in Kansas City, MO.

Our own conference started on Friday, Febuary 18th with a small reception. …
