The best single word to use in describing this volume is eclectic. It is eclectic in the backgrounds of the contributing authors, in the theoretical perspectives used, in the content and types of issues covered, and in the types of data presented and analyzed. This volume contains a collection of papers presented at a 1992 symposium in Germany of researchers in family resources management from the United States, Ethiopia, Finland, Germany, Japan, and Korea. Theoretical perspectives--from institutional economics to Deacon and Firebaugh's systems approach to family resource management, to Becker's household production model, to McCubbin and Patterson's Double ABCX model of family adaptation --are used in various papers in the volume. Topics covered range from microlevel aspects of family scheduling to home-based work and time allocation to macrolevel analyses of health status of individuals and children and environmental issues in various countries.
