2005 Eastern Section OEST Winner Mary Sue Burns

Ms. Burns' photo was inadvertantly ommited from the report of OEST winners published in the January, 2005 issue of the Journal of Geoscience Education, v. 53, n. 1, p. 130-135. Ms. Burns' citation was published on page 103 of that issue.

2005 - DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD - ELLIS E. UNDERKOFFLER

The Eastern section/NAGT is pleased to announce that Mr. Ellis E. Underkoffler of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, has been selected to receive the Eastern section's Distinguished Service Award for 2005. This award recognizes Ellis1 many years of devotion to the teaching of earth science and his many years of dedicated service to the Eastern section.

Ellis holds degrees from Shippensburg State University in Pennsylvania (BS) and the University of Delaware (MEd), plus he has continued his advanced studies at the University of Delaware and several other institutions. In recognition of his excellence in the class room, Ellis received the Presidential Award in the Teaching of Science, and he was selected as the Outstanding Earth Science Teacher and the Outstanding Environmental Teacher for the state of Delaware. Ellis is a well known figure throughout the state of Delaware and elsewhere for the many teacher workshops he has created and led on topics as varied as oceanography, soils, plants, and rocks. He was selected to be a member of the teaching faculty of the APAST program created by The National Association of Geoscience Teachers and The National Science Teachers Association. …
