She lingered long in the Supermarket, walking up and down past the cereals. So many choices. Some offered the chance of a free trip to Hawaii, others More For Money. Many were in attractive packages with cellophane wrappers. Such an important decision. A large packet of breakfast food lasted a long time. The wrong one and you were stuck with it.

It was the Super Size packet of cornflakes that held the most appeal. On the packet it promised "Hidden Magic Inside!" A trick? A toy? She wondered. Something to liven up the first meal of the day for many mornings to come.

Yes, that was it. That was what she wanted most. Hidden magic. Her choice made, she walked up the aisle towards the check-out. She paid. She could hardly wait to open the package.

She felt thwarted, frustrated. She thought the hidden magic would appear immediately, but there was no sign of it. She didn't like to probe, upset everything. She'd wait. There was plenty of time. But each day it was the same. Nothing. Just the same cornflakes. Now and then she'd try to penetrate the top layers, just an experimental search but it didn't yield anything. …
