July 21: Prime Minister 'Adnan Badran received a vote of confidence following debate over his policies, specifically his announcement to raise oil prices. The vote was 66-37 in the 110-seat Parliament, and came as Badran attempted to reduce a record deficit of 950 million dinars ($1.3 billion). [AFP, 7/21]

Aug. 4: Jordanian security forces arrested 17 members of a network suspected of links to al-Qa'ida for plotting to attack local security officials and American officers. Eleven allegedly belonged to a Saudi Arabian group called the Al-Haramayn Brigades and six others were part of the Jordanianborn Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's al-Qa'ida in Iraq. [AFP, 8/4]

Aug. 10: The UK and Jordan struck a deal ensuring that any individual extradited from Britain would not face the death penalty or torture. The deal clears the way for the deportation of Abu Qatada, a Jordanian-Palestinian with alleged ties to Usama bin Ladin, who was convicted in absentia for alleged bomb plots in Jordan. [BBC, 8/11]
