Written from a practical point of view, the book is right down in the mud, muck, and slime of the trenches of business in the 21st century. The way the subject matter is discussed, it can shock you by both its brilliance and inherent simplicity. It embodies the perfect scenario - a profound concept that is difficult if not impossible to argue against - and provides for a "Win-Win-Win" situation for as deep as your supplier chain runs. The authors state at the very beginning that the volume is a "How to Guide" and, in that capacity, they make the journey very worthwhile. Whether you've been battling these concepts for decades, like me, or you are just beginning, it is a compelling, convincing, and extremely well-written book.

At the start, the book provides the obvious, necessary ingredients for effective Supply Chain Management, which includes people, processes, and technology. The authors touch each one of these areas through their own personal experiences and case studies. Think about it. What would provide for a more compelling argument than the experiences at Wal-Mart, Proctor & Gamble, and Warner-Lambert? At the end of each chapter, the authors provide salient questions as a convenient gauge to determine whether you understood the chapter. …
