This is another troubling concept. Pennock attempts to summarize Arab Americans civil rights struggle in the 1960s and 1970s, while also discussing various unrelated social movements of the period. Before I go further, it is difficult for me to imagine what civil rights and other causes Arab American might share. Does this mean that this will be a book about Islam and their struggle for freedom to practice their religion, including praying during work hours at the office, or wearing a full head covering? The first part of the book is about the impact of the 1967 Arab-Israeli War on the start of this Arab American movement. Hm... This might be worse than I initially imagined. The "Introduction" opens with Arab American activists carrying banners that say: "Jewish People Yes, Zionism No" (1). Basically, this is a study that is about pro-Palestine and anti-Israeli activism by Arab people that move to the United States, but retain their conservative anti-Israeli sentiments. …
