There must be something about six years... Mary Alice Shaver edited JAE from 1999 to 2005, then Pat Rose took over until 2011. Now in 2017, Alice Kendrick and I will hand over the reins of JAE to a new editor or editors (and possibly new publishers). Of course the founding editor, Keith Johnson, only published two volumes - but I'm sure getting those first few issues out felt like producing a dozen or more.

Six years seems like the right amount of time to steer a publication. When Alice and I became editors, we set several goals for the journal, including putting it on strong financial footing and increasing its access, prestige and visibility. We were able to accomplish our goals by increasing submissions, lowering acceptance rates, increasing subscriptions, selling ads, and perhaps most importantly, obtaining indexing of the journal in EBSCO and ProQuest. It's been hard work, but very rewarding. And it's been fun.

After being published by the Ad Division of AEJMC for more than 20 years, SAGE has approached us about publishing JAE. At the time of this writing, the terms of that deal are still in negotiation, but finding an outside international publisher was something that Alice and I sincerely hoped would happen.

We are forever grateful for the help of our wonderful editorial board reviewers, our designer Stacy James for the first four years and Adam Wagler for the last two, book editors Susan Alessandri and now Tricia Farwell. …
