Special Feature: Kellogg Institute Exemplary Practicum Summaries

The National Center for Developmental Education continues its 40th Anniversary year with additional contributions to the Journal of Developmental Education special feature publishing summaries of select exemplary practicum projects submitted by Kellogg Institute alumni. The intent of the special feature is to share details of implementation and experience from recent (within the last 10 years) projects with colleagues. The summaries provide a snapshot of action research which can provide a starting point or blueprint to assist fellow educators with similar projects.

As you read these summaries, keep in mind how the featured projects might be useful to designing a personal initiative on your campus. The importance of making research-based curriculum and program design decisions as well as evaluating initiatives cannot be over emphasized. Data driven redesign has been mandated in many institutions; to the extent that program and course changes improve success for under-represented student cohorts, they should be embraced and celebrated. Aspects that fail to positively contribute to such success should also be examined for learning purposes. …
