Student Unit Project Provides 2,300+ Laundry Packets to Shelter in Dallas

Article excerpt

The Student Unit once again left the Annual Conference city better than they found it, with its donation of more than 2,300 single-use laundry packets to the Family Gateway shelter in downtown Dallas. The American Cleaning Institute sponsored the project this year, providing critical safety information to the shelter on keeping the packets up and away from vulnerable populations. The students collected packets from conference attendees and presented the donation to shelter representatives at the Capstone luncheon at the conference.

Students nationwide have continued with the popular Cardz for Kidz project, started in 2015. This year alone, California State University Northridge (CSUN) students donated 1,300 cards to the organization. Dr. Diane Lewis-Goldstein, CFCS, the advisor of the club and a CSUN professor shared that Sara Digre, president of the student association at CSUN, set a goal of 1,000 cards after the club made 100 cards last year. Sara led a campus-wide effort to meet the club's goal, and as a result, cards were donated from many students outside of family and consumer sciences.
