The waist is back!

Waste not, want not,

now we have the figure -

tapered, corsetted, belted.

Hands around the waist

are better than around the neck -

more romantic, comforting and safer too.

Waist-ties beat neck-ties any day -

calling attention, finishing a dress,

holding up trousers, necessary,

and in bright colour

- a flourish that draws the eye

and cannot be turned away.

The hour-glass moment:

shapely, figurative, a timely reminder

to enjoy it now -

not let it go to waste.

No strait-laced, whale-boned

pulled to fainting fits.

Waists now are flexible - taut,

but still twirling.

Waistcoat peccadillos

embroidering the truth. …
