Juvenile Delinquency, an Imminent Threat to the Romanian Society

Article excerpt

I chose to write about this topic, because I believe it is very important to find the triggers of deviant behavior; only in this way, it will be possible to find the most appropriate methods to prevent and combat this scourge. We support the idea that it is much easier to prevent a disease than to treat it, so I think that measures should be taken to improve or even stop juvenile delinquency. Deviation takes new forms, which are difficult to predict or combat. This is a worrying situation. I do not believe at all that it is a futile attempt to discover what lies behind the image displayed by the children and youth of today. Unfortunately, many of the prevention methods proposed or implemented by the parents or their teachers proved to be ineffective. The situation is tragic because there are more cases of violence in schools, the nervousness increased, the occurrence of failure and even the school dropout is larger, there is a significantly grow in the number of open conflict with parents or other adults. These behavioral manifestations occur in most cases as a form of protest against adults. It is easy to put a label on someone, and we do it when we are in a position to label a child whom we know or even our own child. Does the situation change? Surely not. We must not forget that we talk about people, who after having served their sentence, will return to society, around us. It is hard for them and we have a moral duty to help them to reintegrate into the society, to have the opportunity to demonstrate that they can be useful. What if we see them as mere criminals? Don't you think we should help?

It is very important to find ways of preventing the immature deviancy / delinquent behaviors. Such measures of prevention and correction could come only from braiding efforts of educational institutions: family, school, church and community through involvement in various projects of preventing deviant behaviors. It would be better to try to do something because our society is one in which all its citizens must behave properly and the role models must be found everywhere. Perhaps the lack of accurate models leads youth to commit antisocial offenses. Mass media in general makes this problem of the teenagers' worse, showing virtually all the "evil company" black spot, which practically a child full of personality should not know. Unless we do something to prevent the occurrence of deviance in children, our future, our citizens will all be questioned. Why try to get involved in this issue? Because our children may have behavioral problems. It is important that these children, who have inappropriate behavior with our value system, realize that if their behavior will not correct, they risk committing acts, which fall under the criminal law, and they would be placed in a rehabilitation center for minors. This is serious and the consequences can be often catastrophic. Every citizen has a responsibility to the future of the country in which he/her lives and should be actively involved in achieving a better future. Children are our future and they should begin "healing the society."

2.Social Norms

"We all live under the same sky, but not all have the same horizon."

Konrad Adenouer

Anthropological and sociological research showed that in human society there is a large cultural diversity. This diversity creates a unique connection of norms and values, which explains different aspects and perspectives of the various theories studying this issue. We consider it appropriate to emphasize that cultural diversity leads to the formation of different legal rules from one society to another and even within the same society from one era to another. Many countries have completely different vision of social norm. Legal subsystem integrates a company in relation to the evolution of the global society. The etiology of crime as an individual act can be located either in terms of the personality of the offender or relevance in situations of life or in terms of dynamic conjugation of two elements (Berindei, 2006: 74). …
