Her mother died

and her father, lonely, remarried a theatrical star,

but then he died,

and she was left with a famous stepmother

who had a career to tend

rather than three stepchildren

who followed her to important positions

and went to private schools until they grew up.

She became a woman, to her amazement,

who seemed to reflect light from a famous stepmother

when viewed by

men who valued the connection

as a prop to their own reputations,

and in her youth looking remarkable like a handsome stripling,

androgynous enough to attract that older important man

impressed by the connection to the

famous theatrical stepmother and

who it turned out really liked boys. …
