Many of us had early experiences of water that were joyful and abundant. In fact, water played an instrumental part in my own experience of God. Unfortunately, not all children today have an experience of the abundant life-giving gift of water. All around our planet-whether in Flint, Michigan, sub-Saharan Africa, or South India-children are growing up in a world where water is becoming a commodity, not a right. Add climate change and sea level rise to the issue of clean water access and you get a sense of the global challenge before us. Left unaddressed, these challenges will be borne by the poor and stateless.

For these reasons, Trinity Church Wall Street made water justice the topic of Trinity Institute 2017, our annual theological conference. It was our intent to encourage and equip faith groups, NGOs, governments, and businesses to press for access to clean, safe water for all and for innovative, sustainable solutions to address the challenges of climate change. …
