Here are the articles and their authors, in their order of presentation, as presented in the introduction written by our guiest editors Shae McCain and Zaraus Beard of Florida State University:

The question of "why we work?" is perhaps among the most perplexing. The answers provided in this special issue are multifaceted and complex. The authors explore the purposes of work from a human perspective. The special issue is divided into two sections: Section 1 examines "Work Purpose from a Theoretical Lens" and Section 2 explores the "Clinical Considerations for Understanding an Individual's Work Purpose." In essence, we the guest editors attempted to include both theoretical ideologies and practical interventions for the readers.

Section 1: Work Purpose through a Theoretical Lens examines why individuals work from a theoretical framework. The section begins with McCain discussing an application of Holland's RIASEC theory on why counselors work in pursuit of purpose and meaning. McMahon discusses why individuals work from a system's theory framework. Mchmahon explores the systemic context in which people live and work. …
