In Champion Trees of Arkansas, artist Linda Williams Palmer summons seven years of research, conducted throughout the state, to document the stories of twenty-three "champions" registered with the Arkansas Forestry Commission as the largest trees of their species in the state. Palmer initially set out to take advantage of the "compositional opportunities" the Natural State presented her, but was very quickly called to this much larger project. Palmer's color-pencil drawings of the trees and sensitive story-telling is a fitting tribute to the deep connection between .Arkansans and their environment.
