In Memoriam: Jason F. Leif

Jason F. Leif died on December 28, 2017. He was 48 years old. Jason's career in energy law was marked by sound legal advice, collegiality, and leadership.

Jason grew up in the New York City area and graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in political science in 1991 and summa cum laude from The Washington College of Law at The American University in 1994. Jason began his energy career at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FÉRC). While at FERC, Jason worked as a law clerk advising several of FERC's Administrative Law Judges in connection with litigation matters involving gas pipelines, oil pipelines, and electric utilities.

In 1995, Jason joined the energy group at Jones Day in its Washington office. Jason and his family moved to Houston in 2001 to help Jones Day open its Houston office. Jason became a Jones Day partner in 2004.

In Houston, Jason established himself as a key player in the energy bar. …
