The editors aim to subvert more conventional considerations of Old and Middle English by adopting a wider, more conceptual viewpoint. In doing so, they argue that our conception of medieval English depends for the most part on whose perspective we assimilate in order to look at it. In the introduction Tim William Machan examines the metaphysics of medieval English.
