Poems on the Seventh Day of Passover 2013

*

Sometimes

deep in the ocean

a wave extends its hand to another

wave and the wide depths

echo then the words

"Friendship conquers all."

*

Morning enters the bedroom

through the slits of the green iron shutter

speaking birdish

and dismantling

piece by piece my dream

where I almost touched you again

where you almost told me something

you didn't get to say before we parted.

The day begins like a mirror image

on standing waters.

A light wind unsettles it.

Life goes on.

Translated from Hebrew by the poet

Midrash for Song of Songs 8:6–7

Love is strong as death, passion is fierce as the grave

Its burns cannot be rubbed out

Many waters cannot above all since the water

Is boiling and the girl very small her step still wobbly

Someone has to stretch out a hand

Has to protect her from herself

Falling into the boiling water

Someone has to give all the wealth

Willingly be laughed to scorn

Someone must be a mighty flame

Many waters cannot quench the burns

The girl wobbles in her fate

So the grave opened her tender soul so wide

Opened its endless gorge

Many waters cannot fill

Persimmon rivers

Will not sate, mighty flame

Will not light up the dark of her grave

When you pass through the waters

I will be with you, I see your burns

I see the grave gorge endless

Wobble to me I stretch out my hand

Seeing your persimmon oil

I hear, the rivers will not overwhelm you,

Little girl strong as death, fierce as the grave
