I noticed the rows of blossoming cherry trees

planted in the park, the torn pink pouring to

the sod where before the old junipers could not

stop weeping dying needles and tiny cones,

the prizes the children collected and brought

home. One day I'll have to ask if I have

a child, which is embarrassing to me, to ask.

Is she female? of any age, any profession?

Or tall? Mine? I know she's that one, running

in the park, now, after annoyed doves who

are lazy, but not too. The fountain is dry,

she yells, and I'm thirsty. Come home!

I can still shout loud. The sun's gone down

behind the duplex to the west and

the teens who are like zombies in dress,

in stride, in appetite, emerge. …
