Spring is coming in the northern hemisphere, with hints of warmth in the wind, pictures of flowers from more southern states, and more rain than snow in northern ones.

In spring our minds rush ahead to thoughts of summer and singing at conferences. Have you registered yet for our conference in Dallas, July 14-18? https://www.regonline.com/registration/Checkin.aspx?EventID= 2549348. No other event I know of in the United States and Canada has a hymn festival every day!

While you are enjoying spring and waiting for summer, page through this issue of The Hymn and learn about a French Catholic teacher who emphasized hymns as an aid in teaching the values of the faith. Study, through the winning entry from last summer's Emerging Scholar Forum, how the keyboard has been part of praise and worship music in churches over the last several decades. Hear about some ethnographic studies of particular congregations' musicking (see Christopher Small's book of that title for an interesting read).
