It is hard to believe that this is the 24th "Editor's Notes" I have written for The Hymn and my final one. Thank you to everyone who has been so helpful in providing articles, columns, and proofreading, and for answering my many questions over the last six years! Particular thanks go to this year's capable columnists, Chris Ángel, Pam McAllister, and Paul Westermeyer, FHS.

Since this is the Autumn issue it is full of things from our Annual Conference in Waterloo this past July, where the singing was magnificent. Many thanks to the persons who made sure our festivals were so well publicized locally. The four plenary addresses are included in this issue, the yearly report of the conference has been written by the members of the Editorial Advisory Board, pictures were taken by the faithful and creative Glen and Judy Richardson, and there is notice of our four new Fellows (the highest honor The Hymn Society can give), the winner of our tune search, and the Emerging Scholar winners.

By the time you receive this issue, I expect that the mid-October Harmony conference hosted by The Center for Congregational Song will be a pleasant memory for many of you. Brian Hehn, the Director of The Center, has focused an article for us on its principles and upcoming work. Read and mark your calendars and imagine how you might get involved.

I have learned something in every issue that I have edited over these last six years. One thing I was reminded of during the process of this issue is that, while I learned about the formatting of hymn texts in graduate school under Carlton R. …
