This volume is like new wine in old wineskins and the collaboration of John L. Bell, FHS, and Graham Maule does not disappoint. Together, they have combined excellent texts with familiar, appropriate tunes. These scan well with the accents falling in the right place.

Fifty percent of the texts are newly written and not published before, so, the Unknown part of the title. The remainder span the past thirty years of textwriting. The wide variety of subjects covered include ecology, abuse, money, depression, and delight.

For the most part, the tunes are Known, being common tunes and folk songs. The tunes are presented with the melody line only which assumes one would be able to find a four-part version in many available hymnaries. The selections are presented in alphabetical order by the first line of the text. Indexes include psalms in paraphrase, topical, composer and musical sources, metrical, tune name, and title.
