Of the writing of this book (to paraphrase Ecclesiastes) there seemed no end, and surely there wouldn't have been had it not been for the all-important contributions of others. For a start, there are those who dealt with the early stages of the project, when I was beginning to establish the Latin text and, at the same time, come to grips with the English translation. For their help at that time 1 give special thanks to Heather McRae, Katelynn Robinson, and Matt Shaw, who proofread and edited the Latin and English texts as they developed. Furthermore, Matt and Heather were instrumental in the middle stages of the project, casting a sharp, critical eye for various grammatical glitches, syntactical errors, and terminological inconsistencies in the more crystallized version of text and translation. Matt was particularly helpful in checking the English translation against the Latin text to make sure it fit appropriately and that 1 hadn't strayed too far from the interpretive straight and narrow. I am also grateful to Arianna Borrelli for vetting part of my translation in its relatively early stages and offering sage advice for improving it. Heather, meantime, played a significant role at the end of this project not only by proofreading but also by helping me create both indexes. …
