Beethoven composed cadenzas for his piano concertos, and because his manuscripts survived they have been published in both facsimile and modern editions that are readily available. Though most pianists prefer to use Beethovens cadenzas in performances today, many other options are available (notably, cadenzas by Johannes Brahms, Camille Saint-Saēns, and Clara Schumann for the Fourth Concerto, Opus 58). The Croatian composer and pianist Dejan Łazić (www.dejanlazic.com/) composed cadenzas for first and last movements of Opus 58, and for the first movements of Concertos Nos. 1 -3. In his recordingof Concerto No. 4 with the Australian Chamber Orchestra for Channel Classics, issued in 2011 (CCS CA 30511), Łazić incorporates his own cadenzas in a performance that "combines elements of the familiar version of the fourth concerto with a newly discovered chamber version for piano and string quintet" (publisher's note). …
