This year's issue is an international affair and yet more testament to Clare's growing reputation, which continues to flourish far beyond British shores. Patrick Vincent writes from Switzerland of Clare's - and William Cobbett's - various responses to the contentious political reform of beer; from America, Nancy Derbyshire listens closely to Clare's skills of close-listening; while from Canada, Markus Poetzsch offers a corrective to the mounting critical work on Clare's 'green' politics, and the ways in which it might inform his poetic practice. Sarah Houghton-Walker of the Cambridge Centre for John Clare Studies assesses Peterborough librarian Richard Hunt's recent discovery of a sad document in Clare's personal history - the death notice of Mary Joyce; while Robert Heyes, formerly of this parish, has an inquisitive browse through Clare's library.
