We note, with sadness, the passing of Dr. Harry Triandis, a longtime member of the Board of Consulting Editors of Social Behavior and Personality: an international journal.

Dr. Triandis was born in Patras, Greece and moved to Canada in the late 1940s to study at McGill University, completing his undergraduate engineering degree in 1951 and then moving to the University of Toronto to complete his master's degree in commerce, graduating in 1954. In 1958 he earned his PhD in social psychology from Cornell University, New York, then joined the faculty of the University of Illinois, where he remained for the majority of his academic career. After transitioning to professor emeritus at the University of Illinois in 1997, Dr. Triandis taught at the University of California, Irvine; the University of Hawaii at Manoa; Nanyang Technological University in Singapore; and Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.

Dr. Triandis authored more than 200 papers, chapters, and books over a period of 60 years, and was the editor of the Handbook of Cross-Cultural Psychology and coeditor of the fourth volume of the Handbook of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (1994). He is credited with pioneering the research branch of cross-cultural psychology, and also conducted research in the areas of individualism and collectivism. …
