The Study of Efficiencies of Practical Works in Chemistry Subject

The rapid promotion human knowledge and educational institutions are supposed to follow and discover new methods, approaches skills forteaching and education. Selection of these educational topics and concepts from the vast treasure of human knowledge and its presentation in a practical format is one of the most important educational issues in the world. Improper teaching does not result good learning since today's weak students are tomorrow's weak teachers and these teachers cannot conduct today's modem and improved education, as educational scholars believe in that without accurate and strong education we cannot expect a strong and ideal society.

Education is not only cultural heritage and human experiences from one generation to another, but educational mission is positive changes in attitudes andfinally behavior ofhumanbeing.

One of the topics made me research in this aspect is learning challenges in science subjects. Research proved that better learning of the science subjects particularly chemistry depends practical works and laboratory materials.

The results of this research on the role of the practical works in lesson contribution among chemistry students of Education University, proposing solutions for these challenges and statement of the importance of the application and effectiveness of the use of laboratory materials to objectify and visualize the topics included in chemistry subjects.

The main differences of this research from the others done are research methodology, statistical population and its location. Research done about this topic are mostly qualitative and are done by librarian method. That's why we can say that his academic activity is almost vast because the data has been collected by using both qualitative and quantitative methods.

The purpose ofthe research

To study the role of practical work in establishing collaborative learning among students of Chemistry Department, Kabul Education University.

The goals of the research

* To study the skills and ability of teachers in using the practical works.

* To study the effects of laboratory experiments in establishing collaborative learning.

* To study the rate of collaborative learning among students.

* To study the amount of teaching equipment and material require in practical works.

Hypotheses of the study

* It seems that practical works lead the class to collaborative learning.

* It seems that there is a low rate of collaborative learning among students.

* It seems that there is high rate of interest in collaborative learning among students

Method

According to the research purpose, it was required to use a mixed method (qualitative & quantitative). The data has been collected by using questionnaire and conducting interview and observation, and the participants' documents also has been investigated. The sample size ofthe research was 408 persons (396 students, 11 teachers, & 1 laborant). The participants of the research were the teachers, students and laborant of the Chemistry Department of Kabul Education University. The random sampling method has been used for questionnaires and the purposive sampling method has been used for interview and observations. The self-developed questionnaire has been used. One hundred and sixty one questionnaires has been distributed from which the 150 questionnaires to students and 11 questionnaires to teachers. The questions are multiple-choice, openended and close-ended. Each participants had to choose among the four choices (Much, Somewhat, Little, Never). The semi-structured interview has been used. Thirty one interviews has been conducted, eleven interviews from teachers and twenty interviews from students.

The educational environment and the process of teaching have been observed. Seven observations have been done from laboratories and teaching classes. An observation form has been used to record the information. …
