On behalf of the organizing committee (David Gay, Sylvia Brown, Arlette Zinck) I write to extend a warm invitation to all readers of Bunyan Studies to attend the ninth triennial conference of the International John Bunyan Society in 2019. Our four distinguished plenary speakers are confirmed for the event: Alison Chapman, Ariel Hessayon, Kathleen Lynch and Feisal Mohamed. We are now receiving proposals for individual papers and panel presentations.

In addition to a rich program of speakers, we have a special Town and Gown evening planned. The event is called 'The Appeal of John Bunyan'. Kate Weiss and David Ley, our colleagues in our Department of Drama are writing a monologue based on Bunyan's arrest and trial. David Ley will play the role of Bunyan. A panel of three Canadian judges will then hear arguments from lawyers for and against Bunyan's arrest and imprisonment. The trial will offer insights into early modern law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, offering important connections between Bunyan's pre-secular era and our postsecular moment. …
