AMP Scraps Consumer Brand in UK Demerger

AMP, the financial services group that last year attempted to boost its profile with a pounds 30m branding campaign, will cease to exist as a consumer brand in the UK by December.

The company's announcement last week that it is to demerge its UK operation into a separate company has thrown marketing director Neil Galjaard's future into question. His current role will not exist, although he may move to another job within the newly structured business.

The Australian-owned company's UK operations will eventually be housed under its existing fund management brand, Henderson.

AMP has also put two of its businesses - UK pensions operation NPI and online investment arm Ample - up for sale. The decision followed AMP's pounds 351m net loss last year.

Galjaard recently took over the role of marketing director after his predecessor Jonathan Harrison took charge of the troubled business's change management programme earlier this year.

The UK business will be named Henderson and will house brands including Pearl Assurance and London Life, which Galjaard currently oversees, as well as Henderson Global Investors. …
