Message from the President of TECC. (TECC)

Article excerpt

We are living in times that are politically, economically, and socially turbulent. Our students aren't always focused. The money isn't always there. The future isn't always clear. Still, teachers teach every day, even if some days are better than others.

Harry and Rosemary Wong, in The First Days of School, remind us of our place in society:

All of our national problems, from
   international competitiveness to
improving our standard of living to
the future of our children, ultimately
   rest on one important word:

Indeed, our place in society is as central as it ever has been. As another school year draws to a close, I think it's important to remember that any mistakes we've made can be learned from, but any successes we have can never be erased.

Speaking of successes, those of you who were able to make it to Nashville in March enjoyed another great program of elementary-focused technology education sessions. Thanks are in order to Sharon Brusic for her work in assembling a great series of sessions!

Council News

Every two years TECC elects its leaders. In the fall all council members will have the chance to vote for new officers. But who will be on the ballot? If you want to nominate yourself or someone else for President, Vice President for Programs, Vice President for Communications, Treasurer, or Secretary, e-mail me at and let me know! The only qualifications are that you're a TECC member, are interested in promoting elementary school technology education, and care about the future of the organization. The deadline for nominations is September 15, 2003.

Have you visited our home page lately? it's still available at ~childres/tecchome.html, and it's still the most comprehensive (and comprehensible) place for TECC news. Check out the links to other cool pages! Vince Childress continues as our Webmaster. Thanks Vince!

TECC Award Honorees

Once again, at the Nashville ITEA conference in March, the Technology Education for Children Council presented its annual awards. But this year was a little different. Only twice before has TECC honored more than two educators with annual awards. Due to the increasing number of people getting involved with TECC and elementary-school technology education, we had a record number of nominees, and this year the council presented awards to five outstanding educators!

TECC Leadership Awards were presented to Vince Childress and Sharon Brusic. …
