Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Springfield has hired William Silvanic as its vice president of annuity finance and its chief actuary.

Mr. Silvanic was a senior vice president and the controller for the retirement and investment services division of Cigna Corp. of Philadelphia. He joined a Cigna predecessor, Connecticut General Insurance Corp., in 1977.


U.S. Bancorp Asset Management Inc. of Minneapolis has hired Matt Finn as the lead manager for its First American Large-Cap Value Fund, which has $949 million of assets under management.

Mr. Finn was the head of equities at Advantus Capital Management Inc., a unit of Minnesota Mutual Cos. Inc. of St. Paul. Before that he had been the chief investment officer for the growth and income group at Evergreen Investment Management Co. LLC of Boston, a unit of First Union Corp. (now Wachovia Corp.)

Fort Washington Investment Advisors Inc., a Cincinnati unit of Western and Southern Financial Group, has hired Nicholas P. Sargen as its chief investment officer.

Mr. Sargen was a managing director and a global market strategist at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. in New York. Before that he had been a managing director and the CIO of global advisers at Prudential Insurance Co. of America.

Earlier he had been the director of bond market research at Salomon Brothers Inc., now part of Citigroup Inc.

Fort Washington manages $24 billion of assets.
