Super Solvers Treasure Mountain

Article excerpt

The Learning Company's SuperSolver Sleuth is back again in an engaging additions to the SuperSolvers Adventure series. Super Solvers Treasure Mountain challenges primary students to win back a magic crown by recovering treasure stolen by the Master of Mischief and hidden on Treasure Mountain. Players use nets to catch frisky elves carrying gold coils and scrolls, then answer "puzzler" questions from the elves' scrolls that engage their reading, math, language arts, and science skills. Correct answers earn players clue words, which help them find treasures as well as the keys they need to climb to a higher level of the mountain. As they play, students must be on their toes, keeping their "elf nets" in good repair, maintaining their supply of gold coins, and watching out for hazards and obstacles. After reaching the summit, they can visit a game room to view and play with their treasures and check on their progress in winning back the magic crown.

* Kids find the program attractive and interesting, thanks to its vivid graphics, animation, sound, and design. They particularly enjoy the freedom to move about at will on the mountain in the course of the game, and they are highly motivated by the reward system.

* Treasure Mountain tracks players' success not only in answering puzzler questions but also in mastering the game elements of the program, increasing the difficulty of each area independent of the other, once players have shown mastery. As a result, players of differing abilities can succeed and build self-esteem while remaining challenged. …
