Barclays Bank has merged its marketing and communications teams, resulting in a number of role changes across the group, including a change in job title for group marketing director Simon Gulliford. The restructure coincides with the announcement that centres of excellence director George Bothwell will leave at the end of this year.

The changes reflect the strategic priorities started by Barclays Group chief executive Matthew Barrett and have been overseen by group marketing director Gulliford, who now becomes marketing and communications director.

Barclays said the merger is a continuation of its attempt to place customers at the centre of its thinking and actions.

Bothwell, whose position was created at the beginning of the year (Marketing, January 30) to streamline Barclays' marketing, is leaving the company at the end of the year to return to Canada. Head of communications Leigh Bruce will take on Bothwell's responsibilities.

As deputy marketing and communications manager he will report to Gulliford and oversee brand strategy, customer insight, marketing operations and development, community and PR and internal communications. …
