British Airways has been forced to pull a planned TV advertising campaign at the last minute following the unofficial staff walkout that left thousands of its customers stranded for days at London's Heathrow Airport.

The indefinite postponement of a three-week ad burst due to break on Friday follows a weekend of turmoil for BA that has the potential to seriously damage its brand.

The company's management team has decided it would be inappropriate to proceed with the TV campaign while the unofficial strike action is unresolved.

The TV work consists of previously run creative work starring PJ O'Rourke, promoting BA's positioning as an airline offering both high quality and low fares.

It also emerged that its entire 30-strong UK and Ireland marketing team, including marketing director Martin George and Jayne O'Brien, the general manager of marketing, were drafted in at the weekend to assist with customer services and check-in operations at Heathrow. …
