BP Hands Top UK Retail Post to Costa Director

BP, the UK's biggest fuel retailer by sites, has poached Costa Coffee marketing director Chris Sedgwick to take on an influential new role overseeing UK retail marketing.

Sedgwick, who joined BP last week, takes the position of customer director, reporting to the company's retail director, Graham Sims.

His departure from Whitbread Group's Costa Coffee has triggered a reshuffle of senior marketers at the hotels-to-restaurants empire, with his role being filled by Marriott Hotels marketing director John Rogers.

Rogers joins Costa imminently, and will take responsibility for marketing the chain as it competes with Starbucks and Caffe Nero.

Whitbread has replaced Rogers with Thistle Hotels marketing controller Gerard Tempest. He will join the company on August 26 and report to commercial director Tony Dangerfield.

Thistle said it had yet to replace Tempest, who only assumed his marketing responsibilities last month following the departure of sales and marketing director William Burton. …
