Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Inc. of New York has promoted executive vice president John Howard to director of research, from associate director.

Mr. Howard, who has spent his whole 20-year professional career at the broker-dealer, remains a member of its board.

In his new role he succeeded Mike Corasaniti, who will leave the company at the end of the month to join Pequot Capital Management Inc. of Westport, Conn.

FleetBoston Financial Corp. has made Richard A. Higginbotham a corporate executive vice president.

He remains the managing director of national commercial financial services and a member of the company's management committee.

Mr. Higginbotham has been with Fleet since 1969, when he started his banking career at what was then Industrial National Bank. It was renamed Fleet Financial Group in 1982.


Bank One Corp. of Chicago said that Dennis Bassett has rejoined it as the chief executive officer of its Indiana banking operations.

Mr. Bassett's first tour with Bank One and its predecessors lasted 27 years. He started as a credit analyst at Indiana National Bank in 1973 and left as the senior managing director for large corporate banking in 2001.

For the last two years he had been the president of Huntington Bancshares Inc.'s Indiana banking operations.


Mellon Financial Corp. of Pittsburgh has hired R. Max Gould as the head of outsourcing operations for its human resources services subsidiaries.

He was the head of information technology infrastructure services and a manager of five data centers at the Stamford, Conn. …
