Walkers Crisps Awards Top Role to Media Chief

Walkers Snacks has appointed Carol Garbutt marketing director of its flagship crisps range, named last week in Marketing as the UK's biggest brand.

Garbutt has been with Walkers since 1995 when she joined from Unilever as brand manager for crisps. Her most recent role was marketing director for media and new product development. In this capacity she moved media planning and buying out of MediaVest and into OMD UK last year.

Garbutt, who will report to vice-president of marketing Neil Campbell, fills the post vacated by Mike Munro, who finished his secondment from US parent firm Frito-Lay two months ago. Munro returned to Chicago as vice-president for foods at PepsiCo.

Garbutt's promotion means she will have jurisdiction over an ad campaign she was involved with in its infancy, the long-running Gary Lineker creative.

Lineker will endorse Walkers for at least two more years - he signed a five-year, pounds 1.5m renewal in December 2000.

In last week's Biggest Brands survey, compiled by Information Resources, Walkers overtook Coca-Cola to claim the title of the UK's biggest FMCG brand. …
