ALA has announced that Carla Hayden, executive director of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, became its president at the end of the ALA Annual Conference in Toronto. She will serve from 2003 to 2004.

Previously, Hayden was first deputy commissioner and chief librarian of the Chicago Public Library and assistant professor in the School of Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at the College of Library and Information Services at the University of Maryland--College Park. She has served as chair of ALA's Committee on Accreditation and its Spectrum Initiative. She is also a member of the Black Caucus of ALA and the Public Library Association.

ALA also announced that Carol A. Brey-Casiano, executive director of the El Paso (Texas) Public Library, has been elected president of the association for the 2004 to 2005 term. Brey-Casiano is a member of ALA Council, has served as Illinois Chapter Councilor, and chaired the Public Library Association's Basic Education and Literacy Services Committee, as well as the Public Relations Committee of the Texas Library Association (TLA). …
